We must recognize the growing trend of teenage alcoholism if we are to take a realistic approach to curbing it.

Is Anyone Serious About Health Care Costs?

By Natural Home at 2011-02-19 01:14:28
We hear it all the time especially from the progressives, "Big Insurance, Big Banking, Big Oil, Big Auto Makers, Big Business, Big..........., on and on the list goes. They try to somehow turn these industries into evil villains in the eyes of the public by applying the prefix Big. According to the progressives all our problems are caused by the "Big Industries". This, my friends, is nothing but a smoke screen to draw the citizens' attention from the real culprit. Do I have to spell it out, I assume most of the free thinkers who have read this much have already guessed the real culprit. Alright I'll spell it out, "BIG GOVERNMENT". This, my friends, is the root of all our problems.
Take for instance health care, it is not "Big Insurance" and "Greedy Hospitals" that are the problem, as progressives would have you believe, it is BIG GOVERNMENT".
When was the last time you looked at you health insurance coverage? Take a close look. My wife and I are in our middle age and we do not plan on having any more children but we are paying premiums for maternity services, we do not plan on becoming drug addicts but are paying premiums for drug rehab, we do not plan on becoming alcoholics but are paying premiums for alcohol rehab, and the list of coverages we do not want or will ever use goes on and on and yes we are paying premiums for them, you should take a close look at your policy some time.
In the year 1900 agriculture represented two thirds of the American economy. Today agriculture accounts for less than 3% of the U.S. economy. There have been huge advances based on research, technology, farm management and agricultural practices. Farms on average are much larger. In 1900 no one could have comprehended or predicted the changes that would happen in agriculture. The same level of change is needed in healthcare, but it needs to be accomplished in 10 years or less. President Kennedy challenged America to put a person on the moon within a decade and we did it. The same type of challenge and mobilization is needed in healthcare reform now.
Republicans fought passage of the law every step of the way and Democrats avoided many key provisions in the hope of getting a few Republicans in the Senate to support the bill in order to get it passed into law. The result is a less than perfect partial solution to a large-scale set of problems.
Some of the home-based health technologies available today include complete wireless systems that will monitor the movement of an individual, provide fall detection and a panic button, and report medical issues such as temperature and blood pressure. Other devices monitor just one or two of the above separately. In addition, pill-taking reminders, symptom and patient record systems, video phones and caregiving assistance tools can be found from numerous manufacturers.
A study regarding healthcare technologies by the National Alliance for Caregiving and UnitedHealthcare was recently released at the annual Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas this year. It showed that in a study of 1,000 family caregivers, two thirds welcome new devices that can help them with their duties. These people had all used some form of technology to help them out and provide at least five hours of unpaid service per week. The ages of the respondents was split by 47% over 50 and 53% under 50.
