The stove in your kitchen is often the center piece, since most of what we eat is cooked rather than raw. That appliance, when it is powered by gas or wood, is generally referred to as a range. Very few of us do our everyday cooking over a wood fire, so we use a gas flame or an electric burner. (An interesting use of the word burner, don't you think?) You need a stick and a half of butter. Melt butter in medium bowl in microwave or on the top of the stove in a small pot.
