Six Sigma and its use in Health Care is very beneficial. Its main focus is on reducing variability within standard processes. Six Sigma allows professionals in the Health Care industry to appropriately and successfully figure the inconsistencies within their operations. It allows medical professionals the ability to detail processes within the field and quickly adjust and standardize them. If this cannot be done, Six Sigma still allows members within this field to come up with the best ways of dealing with and managing certain processes. For this to take place, there must be a project leader. Preferably the department head, or a team representative that is completely knowledgeable of the process in question. They will then be able to allocate and designate times and methods of completing each process successfully and further standardizing it for future use. Over time, Six Sigma team leaders will be able to accurately figure, after taking several random samples during the process, and standardize the procedure. For instance, within the Health Care industry, there is always the need to standardize the prepping process. A lot of time is generally wasted since this procedure has no actual time slot or task list. After several days of noting the tasks within this process, Six Sigma leaders will be able to draft an accurate sample of what actually occurs during prepping and be able to create a routine which can be utilized by the entire staff. The use of Six Sigma within the Health Care industry will thus allow medical professionals to spot variances and nuances within the process. It will then allow prepping to become more standardized and enable professionals to maintain this procedure in future applications. An important difference between the two kinds of services is whether Medicare can be used. In general, Medicare cannot be used to cover for assisted living costs unless the resident is required to stay in a nursing or rehabilitation facility for a certain period of time. However, for some states, such as in RI and in Kansas, Medicaid can be utilized for a certain percentage of the costs. As for home health care, Medicare can cover certain types of expenses, such as the purchase of durable medical equipment including a wheelchair or walker, physical therapy, medical social services, some medical supplies, skilled nursing care and the services of home health aide. It should be noted that the primary difference between home health care and assisted living programs is that the latter is designed for the elderly who need more supervision. Some people may think that those who live at home have more independence compared to those who are staying in a retirement community. However, some assisted living facilities offer accommodations that are not different from a regular home and sometimes they are even better because there is no neighbor playing the radio so loud. Moreover, some conditions, such as Alzheimer's disease, require constant supervision and home health care is definitely not recommended for them. The latest research suggests that what happens in the first 90 days will determine the ultimate success or failure of new executives. As many as 40 to 50% of outside hired executives will eventually fail. If the first 90 days are critical for long-term success, it stands to reason that every effort should be made to structure a focused integration process for in-coming executives. Few organizations are equipped to do this. There is an unwritten rule of sorts that suggests a new leader should just figure out what needs to get done and do it. In many ways it is a baptism by fire...survival of the fittest. In our present and future healthcare climate there is no room for Darwinism. Everything should be done to ensure success, because leadership failures affect everybody.
